Gift Table?

I love doing the blogger poll gadget. I like seeing what the "popular" ideas are about a wedding subject but not so sure how I feel when I disagree. (Meaning the whole dancing is fun thing - seriously?). Anyway I was procrastinating again thinking about what to do for a new one when I remembered a wedding etiquette discussion among some friends.

What do you do with the gift? Some feel that it is rude and tacky to bring it to the reception to display on a gift table. While others didn't understand how else you should get it to the couple and that a classic wedding picture is always of the gift table.

So I ask my readers. How do you prefer to deliver your gift? I set up a poll on the right.

It would also be great to get some comments about the idea of a gift table. Where do you put it, decorate it, photograph it, who do you get to take care of it when the reception is over, etc.

It's funny but you pretty much just have to expect someone to bring a gift or 20 to the reception. So rather than require the couple to have to move the gifts twice you might as well just bring it to the reception.

You know I've only gotten a few wedding gifts, and I always thought you sent it to them ahead of time. To me it just seems like a hassle to deal with them at the wedding. But who knows!

You will need to delegate someone you trust to get the gifts home. That's for sure.

I say go for it, if you think people will bring gifts to the reception.

I think you need to have a table for the people that don't know or follow etiquette. Personally I never take a gift to a reception.

I haven't thought about this yet either! My future mother in law has her address down for a lot of the gifts that people can order for us from one of our registeries... and she said she would keep all our gifts at her house for us, wrap them all pretty, and deliver them to us after the wedding!

I'm having a gift attendant. Someone I really trust of course, I really don't want to just keep them out of the table with no one watching them.

I don't think there's anything tacky about a gift table. Trust me--- there are going to be people that bring a gift to your wedding. You pretty much have to have a gift table so people don't come up to you handing you 20 gifts throughout the reception. To me, its just a matter of being organized.

Designate a table and someone to be incharge of it. I had someone say it's best to bring a "fake" gift or two to sit on the table to people realize that's where they need to place their gift.

Thanks for all of the advice. We are definately having a gift table. In fact our venue has a cute little "gift cart" that will be set up by the guestbook table. They will even take care of watching it and towards the end of the night help our designated attendent load them up in the car. We aren't expecting that many gifts but this is a nice added bonus of our venue.

I always have brought gifts to the reception and it wasn't until I started getting our own gifts in the mail did I think about the ettiqute of the whole thing.

It seems ridiculous to me to be picky about when and where you get a gift. Set up a gift table and don't get all worked up about people following outdated and unknown "rules" about gifts.
